Live timing and big screen: the Coquet Valley Challenge Walk goes high-tech (and gives back to Rothbury schools)
NEW FOR 2026: Live Timing & Finish Line Big Screen
Follow walkers in real time, track checkpoint progress and watch finish times appear live on the big screen in Rothbury.
There's nothing quite like the moment you cross a finish line. The legs are tired, the smile is wide, and someone you love is there to cheer you in.
This summer, we're making that moment even better.
At our Northumberland Coastal Challenge Walk, we introduced live race numbers and real-time checkpoint tracking on a single webpage. For the first time, friends and family could follow their walker's progress from a phone, see them tick off each checkpoint, and know almost to the minute when they'd be coming in.
"I could see exactly where my dad was the whole way round - it made the day for us back home."
The response was fantastic. For a small team that walks these routes ourselves, that kind of feedback means everything.
Live Timing Comes to the Coquet Valley Challenge Walk
In two weeks' time, live timing arrives at the Coquet Valley Challenge Walk, an event especially close to home for us.
The walk starts and finishes in Rothbury, Northumberland, right on our doorstep.
What Live Timing Means
- Track walkers at checkpoints throughout the route
- Friends and family can follow progress online
- Live results as participants cross the finish line
- Big screen display at Rothbury showing finish times
- A more exciting atmosphere for supporters and walkers alike
Whether you're waiting for your partner, your mate or your mum, you'll be able to watch the times update live and count them in.
It turns the finish into a real occasion, creating a buzz around the finish line and giving supporters a memorable way to celebrate each achievement.
Technology That Gives Something Back
For us, taking our events to the next level isn't only about technology. It's about what that technology allows us to do for our local community.
Supporting Local Schools
For participants who enter through our school fundraising scheme, 50% of the event administration fee will be donated directly back to local schools.
Many walkers are already raising money through parent-teacher associations and school fundraising groups. This initiative allows us to contribute directly to the schools that support our local community.
You walk through one of Northumberland's most beautiful valleys, enjoy a memorable event experience and help local education at the same time.
