Take on the Wildest Challenge in the Cheviots!
The Northern Pennine Way Challenge is a test of grit, determination, and navigation through some of Northumberland’s most rugged and remote landscapes. This 13 mile challenge follows part of the iconic Pennine Way, taking you along the England-Scotland border, over steep climbs and through breathtaking valleys.
Starting at Rowhope Road End, you’ll follow the legendary Border Ridge, conquer the mighty Windy Gyle, and descend into the stunning Usway Burn valley, finishing at Linbriggs Farm.
This is a challenge for experienced walkers and runners who are ready to take on the wild and remote terrain of the Cheviot Hills. Brutal but beautiful – are you tough enough?
Route Highlights & Checkpoints:
📍 Rowhope Road End (Start) – After registering at Linbriggs Farm, you’ll be transported to the starting point in the Cheviots.
📍 Checkpoint 1 – The Border Fence – Climb to join the legendary Pennine Way, walking the wild England-Scotland border.
📍 Windy Gyle Summit – A 2,031ft (619m) climb to one of the most famous peaks in the Cheviots, with unbeatable views across the hills.
📍 Checkpoint – Just before The Middle – A welcome break before heading into the heart of the valley.
📍 Fairhaugh & Usway Burn – A stunning descent into the serene, hidden beauty of Usway Burn valley.
📍 Shillmoor – The final stretch before a short walk back to the finish at Linbriggs Farm.
