Mandatory Kit

The above (Map and Compass) can be shared between a group of no more than 4, IF ALL the group are going to stay together for the whole of the walk/ run.
The following items below we class as personal items and need to be carried by every participant.
- Whistle (6 blasts in an emergency, repeated every minute) - available from Shepherds Walks (opens in new window)
- Survival bag - varies options available from Shepherds Walks (opens in new window)
- Spare base layer
- Hat and gloves
- Waterproof jacket
- Waterproof trousers
- Minimum of 500ml water
- Emergency food/sport bar

- Fully charged mobile phone
- Personal First aid kit, including blister plasters
We particularly Personal basic first aid kit with good supply of plasters, we particularly recommend hydrocolloid blister dressings (e.g. Compeed type) and sun cream. If you are prone to blisters it is advisable to apply plasters/blister dressings to vulnerable areas prior to commencing the challenge. During the event apply plasters/blister dressings at the FIRST sign of discomfort. Keep toe nails short and smooth any sharp edges. - Comfortable strong walking boots/shoes suitable for this type of event. New boots/shoes and footwear that have not been broken in are not advisable. Do not be scared of putting a pair of trainers in your rucksack to change into on route if your boots start to hurt. Then leave your boots at a checkpoint and we will bring them to the finish for you.
